At the behest of the Tanzanian Government, we launched Bagamoyo Sugar Greenfield project in December 2016 on a 10,000-hectare land in Bagamoyo district with the main objective of reducing dependence on sugar imports and attaining self-sufficiency. The project with an initial capacity of 1,500 tons of cane per day (TCD), scalable up to 2,500 TCD, is expected to commence commercial production by July 2022. We have partnered with renowned companies around the world to set up the state-of-the-art irrigation technology and bulk water supply systems.

In 2016, we launched the United Petroleum (UP) brand revitalisation into the petroleum market. We currently operate 21 UP Petrol stations throughout Zanzibar and are looking to expand our distribution network. In August 2021, we broke ground for the state-of the-art 21,000m3 petroleum depot at the new multipurpose port at Mangapwani as the first pioneer investor. It will be completed in March 2022 as the largest capacity petroleum storage in Zanzibar.

In 2020, we opened Hotel Verde Zanzibar – Azam Luxury Resort & Spa to complement the leisure activities offered by Azam Watersports & Marina Zanzibar, creating a complete and ultimate hospitality and leisure experience for customers. The hotel has been consistently recognised for the green initiatives it has put in place to protect the environment.

Among our new ventures are the establishments of Azam Upholstery Co. Limited and Azam Aviation, both of which provide the best upholstery products and aviation services available in Tanzania.
